The Iccle Brewery

The Iccle Brewery

This is the Iccle Brewey, a very simple set up that makes great beer.

I use this brewery to make small batches of specialist Beers and experimental recipes.

The brewery consists of ;

  • A Ritchies 5 Gallon Plastic Boiler (about £60 from your homebrew shop)
  • A converted picnic coolbox (£15.00 from argos)
  • A food grade 6 Gallon plastic bucket
  • A copper Hop strainer
  • An Immersion chiller (a coil of 10mm copper pipe)

The Richies 5 gallon plastic boiler is used as a hot liquor tank to bring the mash water up to temperature, for heating the sparge water and also for boiling the wort produced by mashing, very versitile.

The Brewing HLT and Copper

Brewing Copper

For mash converstion I use a cheap picnic coolbox bought from Argos for about £15.00,I found on the first mash it lost over 6 degrees C therefore to make it work more efficently, I pulled it apart removed the inner polystyrene insulation and filled the void with expanding foam I also did this with the lid. To strain the grains, I used the outer stainless steel sheath from a flexible tap connector and fitted it to some 15mm copper pipe, then drilled the coolbox and fitted a bulkhead and tap on the outside.
